In Slovakia and the Czech Republic (with the exception of Prague, of course), we do not have million-dollar metropolises, but we have an advantageous position - so we can get to them relatively easily. You will have it even easier with the CND Travel (CenyNaDne) portal, which offers you a selection of the best tours, as well as stays with your own transport to the most beautiful European cities full of historical monuments and modern attractions.
"Bienvenue à paris," welcome to Paris! In the capital of France, which covers an area of 105,4 km² and with a population of 2, it is equal to less than half of Slovakia. Few people would doubt that it is one of the most beautiful metropolises in Europe and the world in general....More
It is also the most visited city in the world, which has not changed even the sad events of recent years. The metropolis on the Seine hides a number of remarkable sights, among which we can include, for example, the Notre-Dame cathedral, the Le Grand Louvre palace complex, the Parisian Arc de Triomphe, the Gothic Sainte-Chapell chapel, and last but not least, the Eiffel Tower. By the way, did you know that a former military bunker is hidden under it?
Rome
If you are attracted to Italy, Rome, a metropolis of almost three million people, is definitely worth a visit. The eternal city and one of the largest European cities never sleeps, so you don't have to worry about the lack of a program here. "All roads lead to Rome" - but you already know that, no doubt. And the Via Appia, one of the most strategically important roads of the Italian metropolis, also leads there. Its construction began on the order of Appius Claudius in 312 BC. But Rome also offers many other interesting places. How about looking at the ruins of the old one
Amphitheater - Coliseum? It used to live here, today this place is a fascinating museum, which is definitely worth seeing even at night. And if you want to be transported to the period of antiquity, you should not miss the remains of the Roman Forum, a once important square. Another ancient building is located in Piazza della Rotonda, where you can find the Pantheon. Together with the Trevi Fountain, it is just one of the many places in Rome that are worth seeing.
Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Krakow
But if we want to get to know European metropolises, we don't have to go any further than a little beyond the Slovak borders. In the vicinity of our state, we can find four historically and currently important cities that definitely have something to offer tourists. So, for example, Budapest. Of the listed four, the largest metropolitan city within reach of our borders, extending only less than three hours by car from Košice and Bratislava. And that there is really something to look at in it. The capital of Hungary offers several breathtaking places, among which
Országház also clearly belongs to it. The Parliament, built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, will impress you with its breathtaking architecture during the day, and at night you can admire its beautiful lighting.
The western borders invite the opportunity to visit Vienna. The capital of Austria boasts a population of one million and 800 thousand, which offers a total of 23 city districts. We would hardly be able to list all the places that this metropolis hides, but among the most important monuments we can clearly include St. Stephen's Cathedral, Schönbrunn Castle or the Belvedere palace complex, which was built by Prince Eugene of Savoy.
Hundred-towered golden Prague. It is not for nothing that the "Mother of Cities" has up to 36 partner cities. Again, it would be practically impossible to list all the historical monuments of this metropolis. Among its biggest attractions are the Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, Wenceslas Square, the Old Town Hall and the Prague Astronomical Clock. Indeed, it would be a sin to be in Prague and not walk across the Charles Bridge. For many, it would be a sin not to visit one of the thousands of famous pubs that Prague is dotted with, picturesque Žižkov or Malá Strana.
Currently, Krakow is not the only one of the four represented metropolises to be the capital of the state. However, it is the city of historical Polish kings and the former capital of Poland, so it definitely belongs to this four metropolises. It stretches over the upper course of the Vistula River, and offers a home for almost 800 inhabitants. However, tourists will definitely enjoy themselves here as well. Krakow has an indisputable advantage in that we can come across hundreds of cultural and historical monuments in one place. For example, when visiting Hlavné náměstí, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Town Hall Tower, and the Renaissance Sukiennica market hall are worth seeing. Of course, you should not miss a visit to the Wavel Castle - a symbol of Polish statehood, the seat of the Polish kings and the legendary dragon.
