And the Via Appia, one of the most strategically important roads of the Italian metropolis, also leads there. Its construction began on the order of Appius Claudius in 312 BC. Amphitheater - Coliseum? It used to live here, today this place is a fascinating museum, which is definitely worth seeing even at night. And if you want to be transported to the period of antiquity, you should not miss the remains of the Roman Forum, a once important square. Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Krakow
But if we want to get to know European metropolises, we don't have to go any further than a little beyond the Slovak borders. In the vicinity of our state, we can find four historically and currently important cities that definitely have something to offer tourists. So, for example, Budapest. Of the listed four, the largest metropolitan city within reach of our borders, extending only less than three hours by car from Košice and Bratislava. We would hardly be able to list all the places that this metropolis hides, but among the most important monuments we can clearly include St. Stephen's Cathedral, Schönbrunn Castle or the Belvedere palace complex, which was built by Prince Eugene of Savoy.
Hundred-towered golden Prague. It is not for nothing that the "Mother of Cities" has up to 36 partner cities. Again, it would be practically impossible to list all the historical monuments of this metropolis. Among its biggest attractions are the Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, Wenceslas Square, the Old Town Hall and the Prague Astronomical Clock. Krakow has an indisputable advantage in that we can come across hundreds of cultural and historical monuments in one place. For example, when visiting Hlavné náměstí, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Town Hall Tower, and the Renaissance Sukiennica market hall are worth seeing. Of course, you should not miss a visit to the Wavel Castle - a symbol of Polish statehood, the seat of the Polish kings and the legendary dragon.
